ARCHAELOGY AND MUSEOLOGY

The department of Archaeology and Museology was introduced from the session 1996-97 as prescribed by UGC which later on recognised by department of Higher education, government of Odisha and got its affiliation to Sambalpur University with 30 seats. From the beginning it was taught only in 1st and 2nd year students as pass subject at UG level. It is a matter of fact that ours is the only institution having this department at UG level in entire Odisha. Since it's initiation the students have been availing the facilities of both theory classes and field work as a part of their curriculum. Every year students undergo study tour/field work to different archaeological, historical and monumental sites in the form of practical work.
The department has its own library with both text and reference books which facilitate the students during their three years academic Life.
Our institution got its Autonomous status from the session 2012-13, the semester system was introduced and since then as per the UGC norms the number of core papers have been increased to 18(eighteen) and students studying in all the three years. Similarly, as per the letter no.28272(4) HE/ dt.01.10.2016 of department of Higher education government of Odisha, all the pass subject converted into Honours subject. Getting these dignity the students spontaneously come forward and their study also accelerated.
During their field work students and faculty members collected so many antiquities and displayed in the department. Side by side they are also taking part in the archaeological excavations conducted by University and Archaeological survey of India . Even the department conducted weekly seminar and workshop for the betterment of the students . The department celebrates international Museum day, World Heritage Week etc.
