About Department

The Department of Physics of Khariar Autonomous College plays an important role in imparting quality education in fundamental and applied aspects of physics at the undergraduate and higher secondary levels. The department offers Undergraduate (UG) courses in Physics as per the curriculum prescribed by the affiliating and autonomous regulations. Along with UG teaching, the department also caters to Plus Two students, ensuring a strong conceptual foundation in physics at the higher secondary level. Emphasis is laid on clarity of concepts, problem-solving skills, and the development of scientific temper among students.
The Department of Physics currently has three teaching faculty members and one demonstrator who collectively support the teaching and learning process. The department is headed by Jitendra Kalsai, who serves as the Head of the Department and is responsible for academic planning, coordination, and the overall administration of departmental activities. The other teaching faculty members, Chaitanya Kumar Mohanty and Abhishek Ratha, are actively engaged in delivering lectures, conducting practical classes, and mentoring students. In addition, Padmanava Patel serves as the demonstrator and plays a vital role in assisting laboratory sessions, handling instruments, and ensuring the smooth conduct of practical classes.
The Physics Department is well equipped with a variety of instruments and apparatus required for conducting practical classes effectively. The laboratory facilities support experiments related to mechanics, optics, electricity and magnetism, electronics, and modern physics, in accordance with the UG and +2 syllabi. Proper care is taken to maintain the instruments so that students can gain hands-on experience and develop experimental skills essential for understanding physical principles.
In addition to regular teaching and practical sessions, the department conducts weekly academic activities. These activities are designed to enhance students’ understanding beyond the classroom and to encourage academic discipline and consistency. Such regular engagements help students remain connected with the subject and improve their analytical and logical thinking abilities.
Overall, the Physics Department of Khariar Autonomous College functions as a dedicated academic unit with committed faculty members, adequate laboratory facilities, and a structured teaching approach. Through classroom instruction, practical training, and regular academic activities, the department strives to provide a sound and comprehensive education in physics to both undergraduate and Plus Two students.

Vision & Mission

Vision of the Department of Physics

1-To create a strong academic environment that nurtures scientific curiosity, conceptual clarity, and analytical thinking among UG and Plus Two students.
2-To provide inclusive and quality physics education in a composite college system, ensuring smooth progression from basic to advanced concepts.
3-To promote scientific temper and logical reasoning through effective integration of theory and laboratory-based learning.
4-To Make complex and abstract topics such as Quantum Mechanics , Special Theory of Relativity  and Nuclear physics accessible and interesting through visualization techniques, conceptual models, real-life analogies, and mathematical rigor.
5-To prepare students for higher education, research, teaching careers, and national-level competitive examinations in physics and allied disciplines.

Mission of the Department of Physics

1-To deliver high-quality physics education through structured classroom teaching and well-designed practical sessions.
2-To strengthen students’ foundation in fundamental and applied physics with emphasis on problem-solving and mathematical reasoning.
3-To effectively utilize laboratory resources to develop experimental skills and hands-on learning.
4-To guide and mentor students for postgraduate studies and professional careers through continuous academic support.
